The taxman oversees all streams of revenue and tax administration in Kenya's capital county through the normal process of assessment, payment, accounting, remission and enforcement.

You will now be paying for your parking fees, trade licenses as well as other fees in Nairobi City County through a new revenue system which is under a firm grip of the taxman.

For businesses and individuals to access services of Nairobi Revenue System (NRS), customers are required to set up an account on the portal nairobiservices.go.ke; downloading the Nairobi e-Services mobile app from Google Play Store or via USSD code *647#

The platform, which is a result of collaboration between the national government, Nairobi Metropolitan Services and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), can be customized to suit other counties’ specific revenue collection needs.

The NRS will enhance service delivery by having simple and easy to use system features and providing timely information to customers on status of their requests and applications, a statement from KRA notes.

NRS is available for use by both new applications and renewals of services such as customer registration and account creation, payment for parking fees, market cess, applications and renewals of Trade Licence, as well as applications for food handlers’ certificates.

Market Cess and payment of daily on-street parking fees will, however, not require customer account creation on NRS platform.

The platform comes with an inbuilt payment system that enables a customer to make payments on the system through either Mobile money, cards or bank transfer.

Automated digital revenue collection firm JamboPay has been providing revenue collection services to Nairobi County Government since 2014 but City Hall terminated their contract in April 2019.

In March 2020, KRA was appointed as the principal revenue collector for Nairobi County Government.

In a Gazette notice KRA officers were given full and unlimited access to all Nairobi City Government revenue processes, information data and systems.

Subsequently, KRA now oversees all streams of revenue and tax administration in Kenya’s capital through the normal process of assessment, payment, accounting, remission and enforcement through both compliance and debt recovery.
