- It is the third leading killer after infectious diseases and cardiovascular in Kenya today.
- It is the cause for 7 per cent of total national mortality every year
- In 2008 there 28,000 new cases with 22,000 deaths
- In 2012 there 38,544 new cases and 26,941 deaths
- There were no clear records of new cases but in 2016 but there were at least 30,000 deaths reported
- An increment of 37.6 per cent of recorded incidences in the last 5 years.
